Fishing Derby Returns

The New Bern Civitan Club reinstituted its Fishing Derby for the developmentally disabled in the community after a three-year hiatus due to COVID. The event was held at Lawson Creek Park with about 30 participants and their care givers. (Picture above is New Bern Civitan Member Nathan Silvers).

The Club prepared a barbecue of hot dogs and beans for all when fishing was completed. Each participant received a hand-made memento of a fish, crafted by member Dennis Pymm who, along with member Ed White, prepared the rods and provided bait.

Fishing Derby co-chairs Betty and Gary Todd organized the event and prepared the food. Member Randy King provided soft drinks. Member Judy Lopez baked cookies for all the participants and their care givers. Fishing assistants included members Dev Lippitt, Jim Comer, Eileen Buscemi, and Maureen Comer. Students from Epiphany School also helped with this event.
