On March 1, the New Bern Civitan Club presented its annual Community Award for 2022 to Craven County Deputy Sheriff, Zach Bellingham. Zach was seriously injured from a gunshot wound in the line of duty in October 2021 and continues his fight to recover. A Marine veteran, the 28-year-old deputy joined the Sheriff’s Department in 2019.
Craven County Sheriff Skip Hughes praised Bellingham for his service and his courage. Fellow officers, friends and family attended the event. Community Awards Chairperson, Helen Shine, along with Hughes, presented the award to Zach.
