At our Civitan Club dinner meeting last night, we had the privilege of hearing from Richard “Chip” Schultz, Public Affairs Officer for Eastern North Carolina Honor Flights, about an inspiring effort to restart Honor Flights for veterans from Eastern North Carolina.
The organization’s mission is to honor the service and sacrifice of our veterans by flying them to Washington, D.C., where they can visit the memorials dedicated to their service and spend time at Arlington National Cemetery. For many veterans, these trips are a meaningful opportunity to reflect, connect with fellow service members, and receive the recognition they have earned.
Eastern North Carolina Honor Flights is currently rebuilding its program and working toward resuming these memorable trips. To make that happen, the organization is seeking support from the community.
How You Can Help
There are several ways you can make a difference:
- Help spread the word. Share information about Eastern North Carolina Honor Flights with veterans, their families, and anyone who may be interested in supporting the organization.
- Become a Guardian. Guardian volunteers accompany veterans on each flight, assisting them throughout the journey and helping ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
- Make a financial contribution. As a growing organization, donations are essential to help fund future Honor Flights.
- Donate a wheelchair. If you have a wheelchair in good condition that you no longer need, the organization would welcome the donation.
- Share on your website or social media. Community networking is one of the best ways to reach veterans and potential supporters.
Chip shared that Eastern North Carolina Honor Flights is determined to get these flights back in the air as soon as they have the volunteers, equipment, and financial resources needed to make each trip safe and successful for our veterans.
